R. Alexander presents Surf and Turf, the upcoming group exhibition featuring seascapes by Pietro Piccoli and abstract landscapes by Brad Robertson. Both artists invite viewers into their natural surroundings and promote an interest in examining the environment. The show will be on display at R. Alexander from March 8th through April 7th, 2018. Come see the sculpture garden as well!
Pietro Piccoli was born in a small town in central Italy. He honed his artistic skills at an early age and pursued a formal artistic career in Rome, an epicenter of creative energy in the 1970s. After exposure to various art, artists, and travels, Piccoli transitioned into an experimental phase in his art and explored the geometric abstractions of landscape, seascapes, and still lifes. Influences of Impressionism, Expressionism, and Fauvism aided him in the definition of his artistic vision. Today, his artwork focuses on bright colors, theatrical lighting, and geometric forms in order to represent views of Mediterranean culture.
In contrast to Piccoli's stylized seascapes, painter Brad Robertson presents abstract representations of experiencing nature. Born and raised in the coastal town of Mobile, Alabama, his earliest inspiration was the landscape-from the indigenous pines and oak trees to the waters of Mobile Bay, and he still credits coastal landscapes as his major source of motivation. Instead of presenting viewers with what he is viewing outside, he presents us with impassioned interpretations of how it feels to actually be in these environments.
Whether depicted realistically or abstractly, Piccoli and Robertson present new ways to share their personal landscapes.
Admission to the gallery is free. Let us know you're coming and RSVP here!
