Black lights meet flowers in Ultra Violet, the upcoming exhibit and garden party at R. Alexander. Inspired by the dynamic works of Italian artist Massimo Meda, Ultra Violet presents a group exhibition celebrating unique art. Works that transcend physical or visual boundaries will be displayed in a black light room to enhance the sensory experience. The show will be on display at R. Alexander from June 11th through July 30th. An opening reception with light refreshments will be held on June 15th from 6 to 9 pm. Come view our garden as well!
Synaesthesia, or the art of stimulating multiple senses, features prominently in Meda's works. Combining texture and dimension, the paintings stand up to three inches thick off the canvas and take on the shape of the depicted object, therefore transcending two-dimensionality and becoming sculpture. To further peak the senses, when viewed under the special black light Meda's paintings change dramatically and illuminate. This intensifies the viewing experience as his landscapes rise from the canvas and enter the viewer's space.
Other works on display that embrace synaesthesia and reach beyond two-dimension include original paintings by Mario Jung and Federico Lopez. Mario presents a wide array of colorful landscapes with his signature use of thickly textured impasto paint. His meticulously developed style showcases his artistic expertise, ranging from playful sunflower fields in Italy, lavishly painted poppies, or the deserts of the American southwest. Using up to twelve tubes of paint for a single painting, his heavily textured works take the physical shape of the represented objects.
Lopez offers a distinct interpretation of pop art portraiture. Utilizing a bright color palette and bold brushstrokes, he skillfully conveys the dimensionality and tonality of his subject. The variant of bright colors, not hues or tones, add depth and dimension to his work. Lopez's deep understanding of color therapy literally illuminates in the black light, as the works morph from bright pastels to bold primary colors and display an exceptional depth.
Admission to the event is free. Let us know you're coming and RSVP here!
