YURY DARASHKEVICH (George D)

Yury was born in Belarus and graduated from the Belarusian State Academy of the Arts. Upon graduation, he began a career in the illustration and graphic design field, only painting in his spare time. After several successful solo shows, Yury started to devote his attention to visual art making.  Upon this career change, he moved to Toronto, Canada. Being a full-time artist, he became an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists in 2009. In 2010, Yury opened his second studio in Palm Beach, FL and recently in Ponta Delgada, Portugal.

He has several series including landscapes, figurative paintings, and abstract works as he works to push the boundaries and explore traditional art techniques with a curious eye.  He states,

My works are about visual perception and the ways in which the face or body or sometimes even a simple cup responds to the color, line, texture or pattern. The “Thing” or “Subject” by itself, surrounded by “Great Nothing”, is my excitement. I try to establish a very private dialog between the viewer and the subject matter of my painting. It is a simple and sincere conversation without any unnecessary details.

Currently his artworks are exhibited in the art galleries across US, Canada and Portugal.

His works could be found in such collections as:

Hilton Collection of Art, USA, Collection of Sara Blakely (Spanx founder) USA, National Art Museum of Belarus, Minsk. Belarus, Museum of Contemporary Art of Belarus, Minsk, Belarus, Volksbank Collection, Germany, Villa Weiner, Germany, etc.
